What Is IPL?

IPL technology overview

Intense Pulsed Light (abbreviated IPL) describes the use of intense pulses of non-coherent light distributed over a range of wavelengths; from 400nm to 1200nm. The technology utilizes specific wavelength ranges to target various chromophores in the skin. This enables effective treatment of a broad spectrum of conditions, including vascular and pigmented lesions, skin photoaging treatments and hair removal.

How Does IPL Work?

Broad spectrum pulsed light is transmitted through a continuously cooled applicator, gently placed over the skin. Cut-off filters in the handpiece change the range of wavelengths, optimizing it for different applications and skin types. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by either the relevant chromophores and damages them (blood chromophores when treating vascular lesions and melanin chromophores when treating pigmented lesions). The body's natural processes then clear the lesion debris, giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance.

The Lumenis Non-Ablative Solution — ResurFX

ResurFX technology

The ResurFX laser is the only true fractional non-ablative technology. Unlike other fractional technologies, ResurFX™ only needs one pass to be effective, saving time and protecting the patient's skin. ResurFX™ uses a 1565nm fiber laser and an advanced scanner, which enables the user to choose from more than 600 combinations of shape, size and density options, for optimal treatment results.

The ResurFX™ has state-of-the-art CoolScan™ scanner for non-sequential scanning. The CoolScan™ scanner uses a proprietary algorithm that controls the placement of each fractional spot. This protects the tissue from heat accumulation and overheating. Moreover, the ResurFX™ handpiece is equipped with continuous contact cooling to increase patient comfort during treatment.

Perform true fractional non-ablative laser skin resurfacing in just one pass, saving time and protecting patients' skin and comfort.

Q-Switched Nd:YAG

For skin toning by treatment of pigmented lesions and dark tattoo removal

Q-Switched Nd:YAG technology

The Stellar M22 is a versatile aesthetic platform featuring Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser technology. It's primarily used for tattoo removal and treating pigmented lesions, including melasma, age spots, and other forms of hyperpigmentation. The Q-Switched technology delivers short, high-intensity laser pulses that target and break down unwanted pigment, allowing the body to naturally eliminate the fragmented particles.

Safe for All Skin Types

The laser's customizable settings make it safe and effective for all skin tones, a feature not all tattoo removal devices offer.

Faster Results

Faster Results

With Q-Switch high-energy pulses and advanced laser capabilities, the Stellar M22 Q-Switch can break down ink particles more efficiently, often resulting in fewer treatment sessions.

Minimal Downtime

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find answers on frequently asked questions. If you cannot find the answer, feel free to contact us via email or phone.

What is IPL and how does it work? +
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses intense pulses of non-coherent light distributed over a range of wavelengths from 400nm to 1200nm. Broad spectrum pulsed light is transmitted through a continuously cooled applicator, gently placed over the skin. The light penetrates the tissue and is absorbed by chromophores (blood or melanin), damaging targeted lesions. The body's natural processes then clear the debris, giving the skin a more even and youthful appearance.
What is the difference between IPL and DPL? +
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) uses a broad spectrum of wavelengths (400-1200nm), while DPL (Delicate Pulsed Light) uses a compressed, filtered narrow spectrum (550-650nm). DPL filters out wavelengths absorbed by non-target tissues and those that cause discomfort. After compressing the useful light, DPL theoretically delivers seven times the effect of other photon technologies, and in practical application achieves three to five times the effect. One DPL treatment is equivalent to at least 5-10 regular IPL sessions.
What conditions can Stellar M22 IPL treat? +
The Stellar M22 IPL with its universal handpiece and nine Expert Filters can treat over 20 skin conditions including vascular lesions (rosacea, spider veins, port wine stains), pigmented lesions (freckles, age spots, sun damage), skin photoaging, acne, and hair removal.
What is ResurFX and how is it different from other fractional lasers? +
ResurFX is the only true fractional non-ablative laser technology. Unlike other fractional technologies, ResurFX only needs one pass to be effective, saving time and protecting the patient's skin. It uses a 1565nm fiber laser with over 600 combinations of shape, size and density options. The CoolScan scanner uses a proprietary algorithm that controls the placement of each fractional spot, protecting tissue from heat accumulation and overheating.
What is Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser used for? +
The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser on the Stellar M22 is primarily used for tattoo removal and treating pigmented lesions, including melasma, age spots, and other forms of hyperpigmentation. It delivers short, high-intensity laser pulses that target and break down unwanted pigment, allowing the body to naturally eliminate the fragmented particles. It's safe for all skin tones and typically requires fewer treatment sessions compared to other devices.
Is the Stellar M22 treatment painful? +
Most clients describe the sensation as a mild snapping feeling against the skin, similar to a rubber band. The Stellar M22 features continuous contact cooling in its handpieces and can be used with a Zimmer cooling device to soothe the area during treatment, significantly increasing comfort. OPT (Optimal Pulse Technology) also provides gentler, more comfortable treatments compared to traditional IPL.
How many treatments will I need? +
The number of treatments depends on the condition being treated and its severity. For IPL skin rejuvenation, most clients see noticeable improvement after 3-5 sessions. For pigmentation and vascular lesions, 2-4 sessions may be sufficient. ResurFX typically requires 3-5 sessions for optimal results. Q-Switched Nd:YAG for tattoo removal may require 6-10 sessions depending on the tattoo. Your practitioner will recommend a personalized treatment plan during your consultation.
What is the downtime after treatment? +
IPL and Q-Switched Nd:YAG treatments typically have minimal downtime — you may experience mild redness for a few hours. ResurFX, being a non-ablative fractional laser, may cause 2-3 days of redness and mild swelling. Your practitioner will provide detailed aftercare instructions. Sun protection is essential after all light-based treatments to maintain results and protect your skin.
